The aim of the Bobby Colleran Trust is to empathically facilitate children, young people, and families to develop resilience and coping skills to manage the impact of loss and change following a bereavement and to look forward to the future with hope.
We support grieving children and young people aged 4 to 19 years living or attending schools in Merseyside. We have a team of experienced, and qualified children’s counsellors who provide bereavement therapy in creative ways, involving artwork, music, role play, storytelling, and dance in addition to talking therapy.
Our Bereavement Support provides: –
- One to one bereavement counselling in schools, and from our Bobbys Base in West Derby.
- Support for schools/teachers supporting a child/young person after bereavement.
- Crisis drop in- following sudden loss in a school setting -support to both pupils and teachers.
- Family bereavement support/therapy-inclusion of the family after a loss is invaluable in supporting a grieving child/young person.
- Telephone support is also available for any family members who is simply requiring some bereavement advise.
- Each referral will be assessed, and each child will receive on average between 6 and 12 sessions depending on their need.
- We recommend that children are referred to us after a minimum of 3 months after the bereavement, so the child has time to process their emotions.
- There are no limits to the amount of referrals each individual school can make.
Our services are free but donations or support on our yearly ‘Wear Blue For Bobby Day’ would be gratefully appreciated.
Referrals can be requested by either emailing takecare@thebobbycollerantrust.or.uk or by visiting www.thebobbycollerantrust.org.uk.
