Detailed Information

Parenting for Behaviour- Group Support sessions take place over 6 weeks and are around 2 hours long each week. This is a suitable group for you if your child is demonstrating challenging behaviours and you would like to learn new ways to manage it by working as part of a small group of parents/carers. The intervention works with parents and carers of children aged 3-9.

Sessions use a guided self-help approach that introduces positive parenting strategies based on cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Social Learning Theory. The group aims to strengthen parent/carer-child interactions and increase your confidence along with your childs positive behaviour. These strategies and tools will aim to break any patterns of escalating or challenging behaviour.

Each week a topic will be introduced including ‘understanding your Childs behavior’, ‘enhancing children’s communication’, ‘using praise as motivation’ and ‘using routines and boundaries to set limits’. You will also be taught strategies to manage challenging behaviours and will be expected to practice skills you have learned each between sessions and discuss progress within your group.
